Brushed Copper

Buying guide artist's brush

Painting is a profession like any other special tools required to perform work properly. Basically, brushes are an extension of the hand to choose the right one is largely a matter of personal taste. There is no doubt that, given hundreds of different brushes, all start looking the same. However, there are two key aspects to consider in particular: the shape and materials used to construct the brush. The materials are of great importance because they make a big difference in price, quality and performance.

Natural or synthetic brushes

The main difference between brushes Synthetic natural and synthetic polyesters made from a man often called product and Taklon brushes are made with natural hair. There are advantages and disadvantages to use both.

  • Synthetics – cheaper. For use with acrylics and watercolors.
    • Synthetics are not good for use with oil paints and cleaning that must be cleaned with turpentine, which will destroy them.
    • They do not depend on fluctuating market, increased or decreased animal populations, or other environmental factors that could affect animal skin and the cost thereof. Synthetics do not pose a moral dilemma for vegans or vegetarians either.
    • Because the synthetic less porous than natural hair is more versatile for use with different media and different surfaces.
    • Designed for solid and durable.
  • Natural – Ideal for use with oils and watercolors.
    • Natural Brushes not tolerate chemicals acrylic bite natural oils in your hair.
    • Many brushes contain mixtures of two or more different types of hair listed below.
      • Soft bristles – Kolinsky Sable (high quality), the badger, Sabeline meat, squirrels, goats and ponies.
      • Camel – This is often a mixture of other natural hair, no hair of a camel. The best of them use advanced non-natural hair, which was previously cut. For example, camel hair brush made primarily of a pony is most likely that the hair of the manes, which receives multiple sections for more brushes. This is the lowest quality natural bristle brushes.
      • Wihehair – Boar, pork or pork.

Sizing

Apart from the brush, you can choose the right size. This is largely determined by the size of the canvas as you work, and the amount of detail you work. The calibration, which is not industry standard everywhere, is measured more or less like this:

  • Small Brushes (Interior) – 10 / 0 | 7 / 0 | 6 / 0 | 5 / 0 | 4 / 0
  • small brushes (Liner) – 000 | 00 | 0 | 1.5
  • Media Brushes – 6.14
  • Major Brushes – 15-20
  • more Brushes – 1921-1930

What the numbers really mean? To get an idea of the size hairbrushes, to know that size 12 is equal to 12 mm wide head. Therefore, a size 6 would be a head of 6 mm, a size of 1, a head of 1 mm, and so on. The numbers below 1, such as 10 / 0 means that the brush is 10 units less than one mm.

Caps

This is the strip metal that wraps around the head and the handle of the brush. It may be of different materials, including copper and nickel seamless and welded, nickel plated steel. The latter is resistant to rust.
