Is my parrot in danger of contracting bird flu if I would take him outside?
I know that parrots can be trained to have a harness that can go into a 'walk', but so are the dangers of bird flu? Does it have to be in direct contact with a bird with the virus or is it the air? I realize that I am ignorant on the subject and probably worrying for nothing!
Bird flu actually refers to a lot of different influenza viruses, like in humans. Only one strain of avian influenza (H5N1) can be transmitted to people, but all can be transmitted to birds. Some are fairly common, but are so mild that they are ignored as a threat. No, not the air born. It is transmitted through bodily fluids.
